I am a 26 years old. I am a social worker…and this is when the other girls would intervene and emphasize, “LICENSED!” So I am a LICENSED social worker.
A wise professor told me that you don’t really get to know the core and soul of the person based on credentials. So I won’t bore you with those.
What I will tell you is a story.
In this story, there is a girl. She was lost in the chaos of life. She cursed like a sailor, stung like a bee, and was an empty vessel. She used materials to fill her heart. Mostly money. Mostly food. Mostly gossip magazines that ask people to focus on the superficial aspect of a person. But nothing fulfilled her. Life never seemed to be complete.
She had a dream. To help people. She decided to fill her heart by going after the dream of becoming a nurse. Well, she thought it was her dream. She thought this was what she wanted. Little did she know that this was not what God wanted for her life and chasing this dream became an all consuming poison. Everything in her life revolved around this dream. She pushed everyone away. Her friends, her family, and denied the existence of God. She believed in God, but acted as if he didn’t exist. Before she knew it, she spiraled into the pit of depression.
Eventually, the poison consumed her body until she was numb. Once she realized that this poison was crippling her, she left it behind. When she left, the most amazing thing happened, she found faith. And she found God. It turns out, she was chasing the wrong thing. Instead of chasing the Holy Spirit, she was chasing a dream; a dream that she was not called for.
The girl finally found the road that she was looking for. She realized that when you put God first, everything else false into place.
I am this girl.
I don’t mean to minimize my faith journey. It was long. And tumultuous. I appreciate the darkness I walked in, because now this all consuming Light is all I live for. Nothing else could fill my heart. Now, my heart overflows with love, because that is who God is. L O V E
John 1:9, New Living Translation
The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
